Seagull's call
You look at me and wonder why
I spend my days up in the sky.
I guess we could say that from birth
I've been charged with checking the earth.
To see you come, to see you go,
To guide your way and help you grow.
For life's a series of crossings,
A series of swims to a goal
And I'm there to boost the stroking
That'll help deliver your soul.
I see you launching out each morning,
When each new day is being born,
To your chosen isle of the day,
So eagerly you go your way.
Abandon yourself totally
To the water that keeps you free.
Stroke as though all depends on you,
You'll move ahead as though you flew.
But breathe from very deep within
Believing all depends on Him.
When waves swell up and break your stride,
Don't give up and give in to pride.
Roll over! Look up! Bare your heart!
Be open to a brand new start!
He who walks the waters is there.
He'll take your hand and give you care.
As the waves cease to rage and toss,
You'll see Him sailing on His cross
And you'll understand at long last,
As have great lovers in the past,
That though life leads us to crosses of strife,
These self-same crosses lead us back to life.
